Stein Irgens to join Norwegian Cognitive Center

It is a pleasure to announce that Stein Irgens is joining Norwegian Cognitive Center as a Project manager. As an experienced technology leader, he is a great addition to our team. In the last 20 years, Stein, has worked for our technology partner IBM, most recently as the Client Executive & Location Manager at IBM Bergen Norway.

Stein will participate in several of our activities, and he will focus on bringing the AI Industry Sandbox (AIS) concept to life. AIS is a value creation ecosystem and an isolated testing environment that enables industry competitors to collaborate on building new products, services, and decision tools.

– Norwegian Cognitive Centre’s task is to accelerates business adoption and commercialization of AI in Norway. With AIS, we can provide infrastructure, competence, and high-performance computing for the industry clusters. The Sandbox will enable rapid development of AI solutions to solve problems, drive efficiency, and make smarter decisions for their businesses, says Odd Gurvin, Project Manager at Norwegian Cognitive Center.

In the spirit of collaboration and fostering an innovation-friendly ecosystem, Stein Irgens is no rookie. He was integral in building AquaCloud, a big data project anchored in the aquaculture industry’s need to solve common challenges to create sustainable growth, established in 2017 and lead by NCE Seafood Innovation.

– AIS is a closed environment for experimenting safely with data to build, deploy, and manage AI pilot projects in a secure environment with support from connected data scientists. We will construct a concept that will let companies within the different industry clusters jointly build value creation tools with collaborative capabilities across the organizations. We will also help them to proactively create new products, services, and business models on data from many different companies. Participating companies submit their data into a data lake while the isolated data remain anonymized. These collective attributes can be used to build new services, says Irgens.
