Cooperation between Green Data Lab at Campus Ås and Norwegian Cognitive Center

Green Data Lab is a hub for research and innovation within data analysis for sustainability, founded by the research institutes and faculties at Campus Ås and hosted by the Faculty of Science and Technology at NMBU. The hub will be officially launched at a kick-off seminar on Monday 12 December. And we at the Norwegian Cognitive Center are one of the lab’s partners.

Green Data Lab
Green Data Lab is a hub for research and innovation within data analysis for sustainability, founded by the research institutes and faculties at Campus Ås and hosted by the Faculty of Science and Technology at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) where they aim to:

  • Establish a platform for collaboration on data analysis at Campus Ås

  • Initiate project collaboration within data analysis

  • Contribute to giving research communities easier access to existing data by offering advice and support for those who own the data.

  • Enter into a research collaboration with the industry to identify sustainability challenges that can be addressed by exploiting data.

  • Make the data analysis environment at Campus Ås visible nationally and internationally through active participation in interest organizations, at conferences, etc.

  • Recruit students for doctoral and master's theses in collaboration with industry.

Green Data Lab is still in the making and they welcome researchers and companies to join in developing the hub further in a joint effort for a sustainable future.

About NMBU and the partnership with NCC

NMBU, Norway's University of the Environment and Life Sciences, is Norway's central and leading research and teaching center for bioproduction, environment, and landscape. The university has several research institutes and environments within landscape, agriculture, forestry and horticulture, livestock, nature management, development studies, economics, and technological disciplines. NMBU with its 6,400 students, 1,900 employees, and 64 study programs has now become part of the academic environment behind the Norwegian Cognitive Center (NCC), which has been established with the aim of increasing understanding and inspiring action, and the ambition is to help businesses in to increase competence in - and to a greater extent adopt artificial intelligence and thereby give various industries in Norway a precise and powerful competitive advantage in tomorrow's restructuring and the green shift.

NCC is owned by the clusters NCE Media, GCE Ocean Technology, NCE Seafood Innovation, NCE Finance Innovation, and Proptech Innovation. Other important partners are Bergen municipality, Helse Vest, IBM, VIS, and more. The center is financed through non-profit funds from Agenda Vestlandet, as well as contributions from the clusters and industrial partners. NCC already has academic supporters such as UIB, HVL, NHH, NORCE, and NORA.

NMBU has studies and research that address the major global issues surrounding the environment, sustainable development, better public and animal health, climate challenges, renewable energy sources, food production, and land and resource management. By being part of the consortium, NMBU will gain access to several services such as courses, expertise, experience sharing, and most importantly test facilities with access to data scientists through NCC's AI Industry Sandbox, as well as use and expertise linked to the data infrastructure that NCC offers. Through the collaboration with NMBU, NCC will gain access to a unique academic environment and business network that can contribute with domain knowledge in areas that are critical to bringing about the green shift.
